Blood Red Skies – Pe-2 squadron
The PE-2 was a highly successful light bomber rated as one of the best ground attack aircraft of the Second World War.
The Soviets manufactured Pe-2s in greater numbers (11,430 built) during the war than any other twin-engined combat aircraft except for the German Ju88 and the British Wellington Bomber.
The Pe-2 was fast, maneuverable and durable and in many respects resembled the wooden British de Havilland Mosquito.
